FAQ: What are the best technical indicators?

What are the best technical indicators?#

There is no "magic" indicator. The best traders use two or three complementary indicators, not ten that contradict each other. Here are the most reliable and most widely used by professionals: 1) RSI (Relative Strength Index, 14 periods): identifies overbought (>70) and oversold (<30) zones. 2) MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence): signals trend changes through crossovers of the signal line. 3) Moving averages (50-day and 200-day): define the primary trend — a "golden cross" (the 50-day crossing above the 200-day) is a powerful bullish signal. 4) Volume: confirms the strength of a move — a breakout without volume is suspect. 5) Bollinger Bands: measure volatility and identify the "squeezes" that precede large moves.

Practical Advice

Start with just the RSI and moving averages. Master them thoroughly before adding anything else. The simplest effective combination: the trend (200-day MA) plus entry timing (RSI oversold within an uptrend). Test your setups on TradeSynapse in simulation.

No indicator ever gives a 100% reliable signal. Always use confluence (several indicators pointing the same way) and confirm with price action and volume. An indicator is a tool, not an oracle.
