How much capital do you need to start trading?#

The minimum capital depends on your investing style. For long-term ETF investing, you can start with as little as EUR 100 per month through regular investment plans (dollar-cost averaging). For swing trading, capital of EUR 2,000 to 5,000 is recommended so you can diversify and respect the 1%-risk-per-trade rule. For day trading, allow for at least EUR 10,000 ($25,000 in the US, because of the PDT rule). NEVER trade with borrowed money, or with money you need for essential expenses.

Start Small

It is better to start with EUR 500 and learn the fundamentals than to invest EUR 50,000 with no training. Use TradeSynapse to practice with virtual capital (from EUR 10,000 to EUR 500,000 depending on your plan). Once you have been profitable in simulation for 3+ months, move to real money with a small amount.

Warning

Only invest money you can afford to lose entirely. Trading is not a way to pay off debt or cover your bills.
